Baugh, Ryan, Robles Score Antioch Speedway Victories

Antioch, CA...October 16...Jared Baugh of Pittsburg won the 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the second win of the season for Baugh, who won the Dean Cline Classic back in July. He finished fourth in the standings this season.

After picking up a pair of eight lap heat race wins, Baugh had a front row start for the feature and charged ahead of Aidan Ponciano of Oakley at the start. The leaders caught slower traffic when Nick Macey of Oakley spun in Turn 4 for a Lap 7 yellow flag. Baugh chose the outside and led Ponciano and James Thomson of Pittsburg on the restart. Macey brought out his second yellow flag to end his race on Lap 9. Baugh surprised the field by picking the inside for the restart, only to watch Ponciano race by, followed by Thomson.

In a close battle up front, contact sent Ponciano spinning in Turn 4 with Thomson charged in the incident. Baugh had the lead for the restart and chose the outside. Todd Gomez of Antioch was second at that point. The final yellow flag waved for Hunter Hammett of Oakley on Lap 13. Baugh stayed with the outside and led Gomez and Ponciano when the green flag flew. Ponciano made a low pass in Turn 4 of the 17th lap to claim second, and a pair of Turn 4 spins could have brought out a yellow flag on Lap 18. Both drivers continued, and Baugh brought it home a happy winner ahead of Ponciano, Gomez, Thomson and Rick Rogers of San Pablo.

Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. Ryan recently won the Central California Clash championship and was the winner of both nights of the Bowers Memorial Weekend event two weeks ago.

Ryan led from the start ahead of Jeff Bentancourt of Brentwood. Following a yellow flag on Lap 1 for Jason Womack of Manteca, Tommy Clymens Jr of Oakley moved into second behind Ryan. Tyler Browne of Antioch was competing in his Modified and was an early third, but he spun for a yellow flag on Lap 7. As Ryan continued to lead the restart, Trevor Clymens of Brentwood slipped past Tommy Clymens Jr for second. Ryan began to pull away from Trevor Clymens and went on to post the victory. Tommy Clymens Jr settled for third ahead of Browne and Bentancourt.

Jason Robles of Rio Vista won the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. Robles won the JD Willis Salute two weeks earlier, and this was the fourth win of the season for the 2024 championship runner up.

Robles set the early pace ahead of Dan Gonderman of Antioch and State champion Scott Foster of Oakley. Foster spun in Turn 4 for the only yellow flag on Lap 7. Robles continued to lead Gonderman on the restart. Gonderman used a low pass in Turn 4 of the 13th lap to take the lead from Robles. Robles kept it close and made an inside pass in Turn 1 on the final lap to reclaim the lead and victory ahead of Gonderman and Foster.

The evening also saw the support of about two dozen members of the Diablo 4-Wheelers group of Concord. Sport Modified racer Jeff Bentancourt is a member of the group, and they wanted to come out and mud pack for the racers. During intermission, the fans were invited to meet with them and take a look at their vehicles in the infield.

Racing resumes next week with the Track and Treat event. The Hunt Wingless Spec Sprints will be back for their third and final visit, joined by the Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, Chet Thomson Memorial for the Hardtops and the Mini Stocks.
