Pearce Wins Hetrick Memorial IMCA Modified Race At Antioch Speedway

Antioch, CA...August 17...Andrew Pearce of Oakley won the 29 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the Ninth Annual Hetrick Memorial race, which pays tribute to Hall of Famer Jerry Hetrick and his wife Mary Ann. Pearce is the reigning IMCA Modified State champion, and this was his first win of the season. The win paid $1,500.

Pearce had a front row start and bolted into the lead at the green flag ahead of Andrew Peckham of Grass Valley and Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas. Pearce build a comfortable lead as Hogge and Peckham battled fiercely for second. Hogge grabbed the position on the fourth circuit. The yellow flag waved on Lap 12 for Tyler Browne in Turn 4. Pearce continued to lead Hogge and Peckham on the restart.

Peckham gave Hogge some serious pressure for the next few circuits, but Hogge kept his cool and held the position. Point leader Kellen Chadwick made an inside pass in Turn 2 on Lap 21 to gain third. Pearce had built a straightaway advantage by the time the checkered flag flew on his impressive victory. Hogge ended up second ahead of Chadwick, State point leader Jacob Mallet Jr of Oakley and Peckham,

Buddy Kniss of Oakley won the 29 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. This was his second win of the season. A night earlier, he went to Medford, Oregon, finished seventh and won the Hard Charger award for passing 15 competitors during the race.

Al Johnson of Antioch led the opening lap before Tommy Cymens of Oakley took over. Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley made an inside pass in Turn 4 to take second from Mark Garner of Antioch on the fourth lap, and Kniss worked his way into third on Lap 6. Kniss reeled in the lead duo and made a high pass in Turn 2 of the 12th circuit to take the lead from Tommy Clymens.

Kniss led a Lap 14 restart ahead of Ryan, and but Ryan spun in Turn 4, collecting Tommy Clymens and Dylan Conley of Antioch. Kniss led the ensuing restart ahead of point leader Kenny Shrader of Pacheco and Garner. Kniss began to pull away from the pack. Despite another yellow flag on Lap 21, Kniss again pulled away from Shrader and would bring it home to victory. Shrader protected his point lead with a second place finish ahead of Ryan, Garner and Trevor Clymens of Brentwood

Clarence Holbrook III of Galt won the 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event. It was a nice rebound from the Fan Appreciation Night race, where he didn't take the checkered flag and lost the point lead to Ryan Hart of Dos Palos. This was the fourth win of the season for Holbrook, but he gained very little on Hart, who came from 15th starting to finish second.

Holbrook had a front row start with fellow Galt resident Les Friend, who has won this race twice. They charged into first and second in the early goings. The race had a big pile up on the front straightaway on the fifth lap when Trevor Clymens of Brentwood spun. Nobody was injured, and Holbrook continued to lead Friend and Merced point leader Lance Hurst of Madera.

Hurst surrendered third to Jared Baugh of Pittsburgh on the eighth circuit and they ran that way until Brandon Carpenter of Galt spun in Turn 4 for a Lap 18 yellow flag. As Holbrook led the restart, Hart threatened to make a move on Friend. On the final lap, Hart made a low pass in Turn 2 to take second and chased Holbrook across the finish line. Friend settled for third ahead of Baugh and Hurst.

Troy Foulger of Oakley won the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. He was piloting the Kenny Shrader owned entry since his team is getting his IMCA Stock Car ready for Boone, Iowa. This was his third win of the season in the class and his 74th combined career win at Antioch Speedway.

Mitch Machado of Rohnert Park led the opening lap before spinning in Turn 2, collecting Foulger and Les Friend of Galt in the process. Jason Robles of Rio Vista motored into the lead ahead of point leader Jason Jennings of Pittsburg on the restart. Foulger moved into third on the fourth lap and made a Turn 2 pass on Lap 6 to grab second from Jennings. A yellow flag waved moments later for a Friend spin in Turn 2.

On the restart lap, Foulger made a strong move on the inside in Turn 2 and emerged with the lead ahead of Jennings. Foulger proceeded to build a straightaway advantage as Robles made a Turn 3 pass on Jennings to gain second on Lap 10. Foulger saw his huge lead wiped out when Jennings spun in Turn 4 for a Lap 18 yellow flag. However, Foulger led the restart and brought it home to victory ahead of Robles, Machado, Jennings and Friend.

Racing resumes next Saturday night with the Late Models making their third appearance. Wingless Spec Sprints are back in action along with a special non point Hobby Stock race, Mini Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Hardtops and 600 Micros. For further information, go to http://www.raceantiochspeedway.com.
