Foulger, Ryland, Robles, Holbrook Win At Antioch Speedway
Antioch, CA...June 1...Troy Foulger of Oakley won the 20 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the first win of the season for the six-time reigning champion aboard the Bowers Motorsports Modified.
Foulger bolted into the lead at the start ahead of Randy Shafer of Vacaville. Andrew Pearce of Oakley slipped into third on the fifth lap, and Foulger had a straightaway advantage by then. Foulger caught slower traffic as Shafer and Pearce battled fiercely for second. A yellow flag waved on Lap 10 for a Gary Hetrick of Antioch spin. Foulger led Pearce and Shafer on the restart, but the yellow flag was out after 12 laps for a backstretch crash involving State point leader Jacob Mallet Jr of Oakley and Michael Paul of Petaluma.
Foulger maintained the lead on the restart with Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas moving into second, but another yellow flag waved on Lap 14. Oakley's Kellen Chadwick got past Pearce for third on the ensuing restart and took second from Hogge on a Lap 17 restart. However, Foulger was dialed in and drove a flawless race for victory. Chadwick settled for second ahead of Hogge, Pearce and Shafer.
Fred Ryland of Brentwood won the 25 Lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. Ryland was coming off of a big Al Miller Memorial win at Stockton last Sunday, but what this was his first Sport Mod win of the season at Antioch.
State point leader Chuck Golden of Pittsburg led at the start and ahead of reigning champion in Kenny Shrader of Pacheco. The yellow flag waved on Lap 5 for Kelly Camapnile of Oakley on the back straightaway. Shrader took the lead from Golden on the restart as Ryland settled into third. An inside pass in Turn 4 of the seventh light put Ryland into second, and the yellow flag waved for Nick Caughman Jr of Richmond in Turn 3 on Lap 7.
Shrader continued to lead Ryland and incoming point leader Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley on the restart. They ran in that order until the yellow flag waved for Dylan Connelly of Antioch on Lap 12. Ryland took the lead from Shrader on the restart. In the waning laps, Ryland stretched his advantage over Shrader in victory. Ryan settled for third ahead of Brent Curran of Twain Harte and Tommy Clymens Jr of Oakley.
Jason Robles of Rio Vista won the 20 lap by MCA Stock Car Main Event. This was the first win since 2022 for last season's championship runner up.
Chester Kniss of Antioch led the opening lap before getting out of shape exiting the second turn, surrendering the lead to reigning champion Troy Foulger of Oakley ahead of Robles. Foulger had mechanical problems in Turn 3 and stalled for a Lap 3 yellow flag. Robles suddenly found himself in the lead with Brentwood's Fred Ryland in pursuit on the restart.
Robles found a groove he liked up high. Every time Ryland got a run on the inside, Robles came back stronger on the outside to lead the lap. The race only had the one slow down, and Ryland again made a strong move exiting the final turn. However, Robles prevailed at the checkered flag ahead of Ryland, Jason Jennings of Pittsburg, Scott Foster of Oakley and Kniss.
Clarence Holbrook III of Galt scored his second 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event win of the season. He also moved into the point lead. During the County Fair, Holbrook won the $1,000 prize in the Figure 8 Main Event.
Holbrook bolted into the early lead ahead of fellow Galt resident Les Friend. Following a yellow flag for Kevin Brown of Oakley, Holbrook continued to lead Friend and Jared Baugh of Pittsburg on the restart. They ran that way until the yellow flag waved for Brentwood's Colten Haney on Lap 6. Friend charged into the lead ahead of Holbrook on the restart and led another restart on the ninth circuit.
Friend, Holbrook and Baugh set a rapid pace at the head of the pack, but traffic reared it's ugly head late in the battle. Holbrook used it to gain the lead in Turn 4 as they raced toward the white flag and he brought it home to victory. Baugh made a late move around Friend for second as Buddy Kniss of Oakley and Kenneth Robles of Rio Vista completed the Top 5.
Racing returns next Saturday night with the Hunt Wingless Spec Sprint Series back after being rained out earlier this year. Also competing will be the Xtreme Late Models, BCRA Lightning Sprints, Dwarf Cars, Hardtops and 600 Micros. For further information, go to http://www.raceantiochspeedway.com.
